FAQ: UpsideDowns GST Registration
The UpsideDowns Education Trust is now GST registered. We are now able to claim GST on funded speech and language therapy sessions. This will allow us to maximise resources available to our members and increase financial sustainability.
In order for us to claim GST, we ask that our speech-language therapists now address session invoices to UpsideDowns Education Trust instead of directly to our members. Invoices can be made out UpsideDowns Education Trust c/- member name.
FAQ for GST Registration
Why do the invoices need to be made out to The UpsideDowns Education Trust?
The Trust needs invoices in its name to claim GST credits on subsidy payments. This helps us recover GST paid and pass the benefit back to our members. Will you claim the full GST amount on the invoice?
No, we will only claim GST on the portion of the invoice that covers The UpsideDowns Education Trust’s subsidy. We do not claim GST on the member’s co-payment or any privately paid amounts. Will this change reduce the subsidy amount I receive?
No, this change is designed to help the Trust reclaim GST, which means more funds can be redistributed to members. How do I ensure my invoice is correct?
Make sure the invoice names “The UpsideDowns Education Trust” as the billed party, not your name or another entity. What if my Speech Language Therapist doesn’t know about this change?
Please inform your SLT of this new requirement or contact us for support.Where do I send my invoices?
Invoices should be sent to invoices@upsidedowns.co.nz as specified in our communications or via the usual submission method.Who can I contact if I have questions or need help?
You can reach out to Bea at invoices@upsidedowns.co.nz / +0204 077 2400 for assistance. When does this change take effect?
All invoices submitted from now should be addressed to The UpsideDowns Education Trust. Is this a mandatory requirement?
No, it is not mandatory. However, being able to claim the GST portion of the invoices allows The UpsideDowns Education Trust to reclaim funds which can then be redistributed back to members, increasing the overall support available. We strongly encourage invoices to be made out to The UpsideDowns Education Trust to maximise these benefits.
What if I need an invoice made out in my name to claim other subsidies?
If you require invoices in your own name to claim other subsidies, this is okay. However, for the portion related to The UpsideDowns Education Trust subsidy, invoices made out to the Trust allow us to claim back GST and redistribute funds to members. Some Speech Language Therapists may be able to provide invoices with both names included, but the Trust must be clearly named as the billed party for us to reclaim GST.
